Wineries: Manousakis/Dourakis

In the Kefalas region, in the eastern of Chania County, Andreas Dourakis decided to create the infrastructure for a winery. He was inspired by his intense childhood memories.

It was the spring of 1988 when he opened the doors of his first winery, located in Alikampos village. He established his business after being full of knowledge regarding wine production from his studies in Germany.

Moreover, he was full of experience having worked in several wineries in Greece and abroad. A few years later, the winery was relocated in its current location. There were two main factors for choosing the specific location to build the winery and the planting the vineyards. The first was the natural beauty of the greater Alikampos area along with the rocky terrain, which offers natural cellars to store and age the wines.

The other factor was the unique microclimate of the White Mountains.
In this environment of outstanding natural beauty, the Dourakis family produces wines inspired by the Cretan land and its local varieties and hosts thousands of visitors all year round from all over the world.

Our vineyards are situated on the hills just outside the village of Vatolakkos where the soils are predominantly rich in clay and argil, ideal for limited plant growth but great for good soil wringing. The Mediterranean climate keeps us on our toes but provides the conditions needed for delicious grapes.

​Since 1993, we have been planting vineyards at elevations of 350 meters (1200 ft) to 650 meters (2100 ft) above sea level, on 13 hectares (32 acres) of rough terrain . Much to our satisfaction, our chosen varieties have thrived and have done exceptionally well in their environment, achieving great balance in the vineyard and finding a comfortable home in Crete.

To date, our wine range has grown and we are currently producing 15 different labels of wine as well as the local grape distillate called Tsikoudia.

We exhibit our wines all over the world and are proud of our numerous awards for the quality of our wines. All of our wines are available for tasting and will be served at our restaurant. We invite you to spend an afternoon with us enjoying our award winning wines.
